Xin’s math intervention research (Xin, Jitendra, & Deatline-Buchman, 2005) was selected as one of the six high quality studies that investigated the effects of using explicit strategies on improving students word problem-solving performance (the National Mathematics Advisory Panel, 2008). Xin et al. (2005) study was cited and presented in detail in the National Mathematics Advisory Panel’s Final Report to the President of the United States and the Secretary of Education.
“On March 13, 2008, the National Mathematics Advisory Panel presented its Final Report to the President of the United States and the Secretary of Education. Copies of these ground-breaking reports, rich with information for parents, teachers, policy makers, the research community, and others,” are provided in the US Dept of Education Website . The task group that reports on Instructional Practices, which is one of the five task group reports that make up the final report, cited and presented the strategies that Xin developed in detail (Xin et al., 2005), as an example of evidence-based best practice for students with learning disabilities.
