Activity Modifications

  1. Use adapted or functional materials which parallel the regular activity.

e.g., high interest/low vocabulary reading materials, counting chips

  2. Determine the functional outcome of the activity and allow for alternative student responses.

e.g., AAC, switches, claculators, picture journals, journal vs. written

  3. Engage student in selected parts of an activity.

    i.e., Partial Participation

  4. Reduce the number of required responses

e.g., student must complete half the number of math problems required to meet the math curriculum objectives for the week.

  5. Within an activity, define different outcomes

e.g., while students are studying rock formations in science, certain students work on speech/language objectives to recognize and point to words and pictures within the context of the geology lesson.

6. Allow additional time to complete an activity

7. Increase amount of demonstrations and hands on experiences
