Purdue University's graduate and undergraduate programs in Special Education provide students with opportunities to work closely with faculty who are known nationally and internationally for their research and contributions to the field.
Graduates of our teacher preparation program are actively recruited by schools to fill teaching positions. Students completing the graduate program are also in demand for the many available teaching postions but can also fill school leadership and university positions.
Special Education is a challenging and rewarding profession. USA Today (September, 1990) rates a career in special education as one of the top 20 career opportunities. Furthermore, in Indiana and in virtually every region of the country, there is a moderate to severe shortage of special education teachers--so severe in fact that many teachers are not licensed but are hired on "limited certificate" basis.
