This is an exciting time to be at Purdue, as the University and the Counseling Psychology (CPSY) program have grown considerably the past few years. Purdue University ranks among the 15 largest and most prestigious universities in the nation, has added 300 new faculty members since 1999, and is among the top three public universities with a high international student enrollment. Currently, the CPSY program, which is fully accredited by the American Psychological Association, has four core faculty and 37 full-time doctoral students. In 2006, the program hosted the 19th Annual Great Lakes Regional Counseling Psychology Conference on campus.

The four core faculty members have interesting and diverse research and applied interests. Even so, a common thread runs through their respective research programs, namely, "college students." College student development, adjustment, and well-being is a unifying theme and distinguishing focus of the CPSY program at Purdue. For example, the faculty have active, programmatic lines of research in romantic attachment, grief and bereavement issues, international student issues, and college student gambling.

The 37 full-time doctoral students include 12 men, 25 women, and 14 students who are ethnically diverse and/or from a different country. The doctoral students come from a variety of backgrounds and geographic locations, including 14 U.S. states, Puerto Rico, South Korea, Taiwan, Turkey, and India. Because the CPSY program adheres to the "scientist-practitioner" model of training, students are involved, from the beginning, in research and practice. Students participate actively, for example, on faculty research teams and in the Purdue Counseling and Guidance Center (PCGC), which is a state-of-the-art on-site training clinic that is supervised by CPSY faculty members. Graduates of the program are employed in a variety of academic, clinical, and other human service settings.

The CPSY program accepts applicants from both the master's and bachelor's level. The application deadline is December 15th.  Please see our Education/Training Outcomes for additional information.
