Indiana Licensure

Prior to graduation, School Counseling students are strongly encouraged to work with the Office of Preparation and Professional Licensure (OPPL, in Beering Hall, 3229) to start the process of moving toward licensure. A criminal check and an examination of transcripts are required, with a small fee for each. Even if students intend to leave the state for employment, an Indiana license may be portable. The OPPL has readily available support for all graduates.

School Counseling students initiate the process by requesting an audit from OPPL during their last semester of enrollment. This office checks transcripts against state requirements and then provides instruction about how to proceed with applying for licensure from the Indiana Department of Education. No participation from a C & D faculty member is required for a student to receive Indiana licensure as a school counselor. A criminal background check and certification in CPR are additional requirements for which individuals pursuing Indiana licensure are responsible.
