Policy Regarding Grades Below "B"
Counseling psychology students must earn grades of "B" or better in all of their required courses.
- If a grade of "C" or below is received in any required course, the student must repeat the course and earn a grade of "B" or better before receiving authorization to request appointment of an examination committee. This means that no student will be allowed to proceed to doctoral candidacy or graduation without retaking the course in which the grade of "C" or below was previously received and earning a grade of "B" or better.
- If a grade of "C" or below is received in a practicum or internship course, the student must repeat the course and improve to a grade of "B" or better before receiving authorization to request appointment of an examination committee. Grades of "C" or below in a practicum courses indicate that students have serious deficiencies that must be addressed before they can apply for internship or be considered ready for graduation from the program. The student may be required by the faculty to undertake remedial or corrective action before she/he is permitted to re-enroll in a practicum course or psychology internship.
- Taking a course for a second time and receiving a grade of "C" or below for a second time is grounds for dismissal from the program.
