Counseling and Development Student Group

Group Description

The Counseling and Development Student Group (C&D Student Group) involves students in the Counseling Psychology, School Counseling, and College Student Affairs programs.  The group's mission is to promote fellowship and increased communication between students, faculty, and the respective programs, encourage professional development, coordinate social activities, and take part in community and in-house service activities.  All students in the C&D programs are invited to participate in the scheduled events that take place throughout the year.

Activities

Last year, the C&D group contributed significantly to the department through various services and activities, for example:

1. Peer Mentoring Program for incoming students
2. "Welcome Packets" for incoming students
3. Intramural softball team during Spring and Summer
4. Volunteering at the Boys & Girls Club

Currently, the group is continuing its service involvement. It is also making strides to continue the improvement of the organization through many different avenues, for example:

1. The Book Club: Students read a book and meet to discuss it throughout the year
2. Quarterly Newsletter: Updates on students, faculty, staff, and alumni of the programs, as well as information on upcoming C&D events
3. Development of C&D Student Group website
4. Yahoo Group online
5. Community and invited speakers
6. New officer positions: Student Representative to the Faculty and Activity Chair
7. Needs assessment of students in the three C&D programs
8. Artwork for the Purdue Counseling and Guidance Clinic (PCGC)
9. Brand new activities: 1st Annual football tailgate, Halloween costume party

Monthly Meetings

Each month, members are invited to attend the one hour C&D group meetings, complete with pizza, that convene to discuss both new and on-going activities.  Being a part of the meetings, either as an officer or group member, is a great way to meet people and make a difference in your program!  Watch your email account for your next opportunity to join and participate.
